He gained mountain experience from climbing in the Tatra Mountains and the Alps, he also climbed in Polish, Slovakian, Austrian and French rock crags. Between 1986 and 2002 he was an active mountaineering instructor. In the 1980s he got involved in climbing photography, documenting the achievements of the Nowa Fala – generation of climbers of 1980s.

Currently, as a professor of humanities, he is employed at the Institute of Audiovisual Arts at the Jagiellonian University, where he teaches film theory and film narration. He is the author of books such as, among others, “Understanding Film Storytelling” (1999), “History of Film Narrative” (2018), and co-author of the textbook “History of Film Thought” (2007).
